Let's Catch Up

Oops, is it awful that I pretty much almost kind of completely forgot about this? There's been no time though, between school and work and the move. But I feel awful, so I'll fill you in a little about what's been going on in my life.
We evacuated the old house, and it was super sad. I'm definitely going to miss it. But we're hoping to get this new house above the canal within the next week. It's a 130 year old Victorian era farm house. I LOVE history so, needless to say, I'm super excited about it. It's...um...a piece of crap a fixer upper, but look on the bright side, I'll have TONS of things to write about!! My whole family is super excited for it, and my mom loves home projects and tinkering. There's something for everyone in it! In the meantime, I'm crashing at my aunt's while my mama, uncle, grandma, and animals crash at my other aunt's. It's not so bad, but seeing as I'm on a mattress in my aunt's dining room, there's pretty much no privacy for me. Thank God for my year away at college, so it's not a totally new experience! I don't have Mo with me, and I miss him SO much, but my aunt's dog Luke has been more than willing to help fill the hole.
Spring semester ends this week! I'm taking summer classes too, which start next week, but I'm so glad to be done this semester. Bring on summerrrrrrr <3<3
Well, sadly, that's all that's new in my life, really. Depressing, isn't it? What's new in your life? It has to be more exciting than mine. I'll leave you with my last fortune cookie fortune, so you we can end with good feelings and smiles, and a picture of my new friend Luke. Ciao!

Don't forget ^^^

Meet Luke, who's taken over my bed in Lily's absence. <3

Christmas Lights in the Kitchen

**Note: SO glad I wrote this post when I did! We're moving soon, and the house is getting packed up faster than I'd like. Not even three days after taking these pictures they packed up all the glassware!

Have your lives been as busy as mine?! Craziness. Complete and utter craziness. I feel like I haven't stopped moving all week. I didn't watch Dance Moms until Thursday, or Vampire Diaries until today! The horror! Unfortunately, I'm still pretty busy. Avoiding homework, the usual. And thanks to my chemistry homework that won't do itself, I've got little time to blog. But I don't want to look like I'm not dedicated to this thing, so I thought I'd do a quick entry for ya!

So I'm not sure where we got this idea from, or even who's idea it was. Maybe we were just too lazy to put the lights away after Christmas? But I absolutely love it. Christmas lights in the kitchen. So simple, and so beautiful! And so versatile! Live in an apartment that you can't paint? Add a pop of color! We use them as night lights. They give off just enough light to light the room without making you feel like a vampire in the sunlight (you know the feeling). I'm totally doing it when I move out and into my own place. Which can't come soon enough!

My mom keeps her Princess House glassware above the cabinets, which makes it look even more gorgeous. The way the lights reflect off the glass? Swoon. Have I mentioned that I love this idea?! I'm ranting, I know. This may go down in history as the most annoying post ever. My apologies.

Soo tutorial? Might want to grab a pen and paper for this one, it's a doozy.
  1. Buy a string of lights.
  2. Stretch lights over tops of cabinets.
  3. Plug lights in.
Ta-da!! You did it! Now pat yourself on the back, pour yourself a glass of wine (drink it for me, I've still got nine months. Boo.), sit back, and enjoy your master handiwork. Guests will "ooh" and "ahh" over your newfound creativity and interior decorating  skills, and you won't keep bumping into the island while sneaking your midnight snack. Unless you're me, then your hip will still find the edge of that dang counter. Every. Time.
Well, I've ran out of ways to stall getting back to work. And for once I would like to be asleep before the sun rises on a new and glorious Monday. Goodnight y'all, and have a wonderful week!

Glitterfied Clothes Line To-Do List!

I really should be asleep. I have a quiz in my bright and early chemistry class, followed by Lab, followed by work. I think you'll find that 99% of my blog posts will occur when I have something else that I should be doing. But it wouldn't be my blog if that wasn't the case! I'm a professional procrastinator. Seriously. I have it down to a science. I once watched my fish Gilbert (my only friend at UNCG, may he rest in peace) eat for five minutes just to avoid studying. Five. Whole. Minutes. That's dedication right there, y'all.
ANYWAYS! Back to the topic at hand. I'm severely unorganized. It's embarrassing, really. I have to write important  stuff on my hand because it's the only thing I'm almost guaranteed not to lose. So one day, I was enjoying one of my favorite websites, craftgawker.com (I'm a totally junkie!), and I came across an idea that I really really liked! It was neat, it was different, and it seemed effective. Just what I needed. And it was totally simple. The craftgawker link led me to this lovely blog that had quite a few household tips and tricks. Very useful and simple to do! The idea I wanted to try was the to-do list made with string and clothespins. It was so adorable!
Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of when I first put it up. Probably best, though, it wasn't too pretty to look at. The one on the blog has clothespins with pretty printed out labels and stationary for the "to-do's". I thought about doing that, but it just seemed like more trouble than it's worth. I just knew I'd have to print out about five pages of the days of the week before I got it right. What a waste! So, incredibly lazy time-savvy Erin took a sharpie to her clothespins. Needless to say, my clothesline looked pretty pathetic. But 'tis the season for diseases, and I've spent much more time than I'd like at home because of low-cencus at work. And why would I spend that extra time trying to get ahead on schoolwork? That's crazy talk! So I looked through my craft supplies box to see what I could get myself into. I had tons of glitter, some glue, glow in the dark fabric paint, and TONS of scrapbook stickers. I look up from my cluttered treasure box and my eyes immediately fell on my to-do line. And so it began! (Forgive me, I didn't take pictures until about halfway through).  I started by just applying some glue onto the clothesline and pouring glitter over it. But it just didn't look right. So I measured and cut strips of thick paper and glued them onto the clothespins first, then applied the glue, and finally the glitter. Much better.

While I waited for this side to dry, I worked on the labels for the other side. The point of the clothesline to-do list is that each clothespin is labeled with a day of the week. Since I was too lazy to print out labels, I had to write my own. I used the glow-in-the-dark fabric paint for this. The spout (?) was just right for writing on the tiny labels.
Oops...Don't tell my Grandma...

Once I was happy with the writing (I'm pretty OCD about my handwriting), I poured glitter on it so that the word was the same color sparkly as its other side. I did each week day with a different color while Saturday and Sunday were both done with silver.
Not too bad, eh??

I ended up adding a second glitter coat to the solid side the next day to make sure I had full coverage and to give it an all around nicer color. I was pretty happy with the result after that! In total this project probably took me between two and three hours, but I'd definitely give it a rating as easy. I did it with minimal accidents/mistakes, so it had to be! And it does look totally freaking adorable! I'm sorry if this isn't the easiest tutorial. Be kind, it's my first one ever! Hopefully I'll get a little better at this. Probably not... Well I think that about wraps it up. Have an awesome day and good luck!

Hello There :)

Hello There :)

Wow, I actually did it. I made a blog. I've been thinking about it for a while. I made a google account months ago with the intent of blogging. I've been mulling over catchy and creative title ideas for weeks. But then life happened. That ever happen to you? Life. It's such a pain. But today I put on my big girl panties (Victoria's Secret ones at that. Yeah, I'm fancy.) and said, "Enough! I'm doing this!" And then this happened. I've got a title and domain and page and all. I'm pretty impressed with myself, if I'm allowed to be. But this is my blog, so I say I'm allowed to be.
Oh! Myself! I guess you don't know who that is. Myself is me, Erin. Established in 1992. I'm so old!! D: I live in the itsy-bitsy little state of Delaware. Yeah, we exist! (I had a teacher at college last year ask me where in North Carolina it was. Needless to say I'm no longer attending that school...) Let's see, what else would you like to know about me... I'm a "teacher" at a daycare and I absolutely love it. I play with babies all day. Literally. Working there actually inspired me to change my major from Veterinary Tech to Elementary Education. Here's to hoping I actually stick to this one! I'm extremely indecisive about my future and what I want to be when I grow up. In one day I can go from wanting to be a vet, open a bakery, be a teacher, or a Victoria's Secret model (my mother's idea, not mine). Maybe when I turn 20.5 years old in May I'll have it figured out. As you can probably tell by now, I'm pretty random. I'll demonstrate just how so. Are you ready for Erin in about ten lines? I really don't think you are.
I'm a pescetarian; I haven't eaten meat in almost three years. I'm a dancer. Like, pointe shoes and sparkly outfits dancer, not a pole and dollar bills dancer. It's pretty much my life and my passion. I have a mentally challenged cat; she has Cerebellar Hypoplasia, so she can't walk, she just sort of rolls and stumbles through the house. But she's okay, I promise! I...I sleep with a boy. Everynight. His name is Mo, and he's my two year old Papillon. He's the cutest thing I've ever seen and I love him entirely too much. Seriously. There's more pictures of him on my phones than of anything else! I majored in Environmental Science in high school. I can tell you the Latin names and descriptions of about 100 plants off the top of my head. Nerd, I know. I have two friends. I'm obsessed with jewelry and nature. I'm one of those eco-freaks. I can quote Titanic, The Notebook, and Tangled word for word. I'm obsessed in love with Brenton Thwaites. Look him up, but don't get your hopes up. He's mine. Jenna Marbles is my idol in life. I look forward to Sexual Wednesday every week. My best friend and I even have Ninja Turtle Backpacks. (Stick around long enough and I guarantee you'll see it). I also live for Tuesdays. Can't get enough of Abbey Lee Miller and those Dance Moms!! I write songs and stories and all kinds of nonsense but no one ever sees a word of it. I'm pretty OCD about my hair.

Ignore my face, but this is me and my Mo <3

Finally, I like to think that I'm an amateur arts and crafter. Decoded? I really like to experiment and attempt all the nifty things I see online (I'm very newly on Pinterest and already obsessed!), but...How do I put this nicely? ...I suckI'm a failure. They just...don't ever turn out quite right. They kind of look like some of the projects that come out of craft time in the toddler room at work. And as I gazed despondently on one of my most recent mishaps, it dawned on me. I can't be alone in this, right? There's plenty of people out there just like me that want to be in the DIY world what Carrie Underwood is in the country music world. Perfection. But just as I can't hit or hold those high notes like Carrie (or any notes for that matter), I can't seem to make Modge Podge act as my third arm. So this is for all of you out there. May my tales of attempts and (let's be honest-) failures help you to feel as not as alone in the world as you thought. And I'd so much appreciate it if you could help me to feel the same way! Let me know that I'm not alone. That you share my DIY and creativity struggles. That your "Super Simple" sock bun ends up looking like, well, this, too...

So now I have a blog to document all my misadventures. Why entitle it, "And then this happened..."? Because that's pretty much how my life goes. I try to do one thing, or make something happen, and then something completely different does. Like this blog. I originally got on my computer to do my A&P homework. And then this happened. Catchy, right?! I thought of it on Monday, when I went to work with blue highlights. My explanation? "Well, I was bored this weekend, and my mom had blue hair dye in her closet (She's a professional hair stylist), and then this happened..." BAM. Blog title = my life. But I want to know about you. Let's be internet friends, and get blog-faced-wasted. Leave me comments on here, this very blog! (It'll make me feel kind of popular, like a mini-celebrity. Me and Mo all my friends will celebrate with Titanic and ice cream in my room a party or a night out dancing). If you're as embarrassed as I, until recently, was about my lack of creativity, shoot me an email. I'm awful at responding to them, so don't get offended, but I promise I'll read it! And feel free to follow me on Pinterest and Instagram! Just because I only have two friends and my dog doesn't mean that I'm not open to more! Well I think I covered everything that website about writing a blog said to. Sooo that's about it for now. Look at me, writing this like someone is actually going to read it! Cute, very cute. Don't forget to click those links!
